Andrea Vazzana, Ph.D.

Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Child Study Center, NYU School of Medicine

Dr. Vazzana, Clinical Psychologist, specializes in eating disorders and forensic psychology. She is one of two founding directors of the Psychiatry and the Law service, where she conducts custody evaluations, risk assessments, and evaluations of emotional harm. Her role within the Eating Disorder Service includes evaluating and treating patients with eating disorders, such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia and binge eating. As Clinical Coordinator of the Weight Management Program, Dr. Vazzana conducts evaluations of bariatric surgery candidates, and leads ShapeDown, a comprehensive obesity treatment program for children and adolescents.

Dr. Vazzana completed her undergraduate degree and Master's level training in Clinical Psychology at Loyola College. She graduated from Northern Illinois University with a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, and completed her internship and post-doctoral fellowship in Forensic Psychology at Tulane University School of Medicine.

Previously, Dr. Vazzana was an Associate Research Scientist with the CSC's Institute for Prevention Science where she led parenting groups designed to prevent conduct problems in high-risk preschoolers. Additionally, Dr. Vazzana is a Senior Psychologist at Manhattan Family Court where she conducts forensic evaluations pertaining to delinquency and child protective proceedings.

Dr. Vazzana is a member of the Academy for Eating Disorders and the national and regional chapters of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. She is a frequent guest lecturer and panelist at universities and associations, has presented at scientific conferences, and appears in magazines and on radio and television programs regarding eating disorders and forensic matters.
